A 6-year-old girl was expected to make a full recovery after
she was shot while playing on her grandmother's porch in Englewood.
"Smile" is an independently-funded documentary that chronicles the story of a Chicago family who has endured violence and turmoil in the midst of an inner-city community where murder has risen to epidemic levels. It is a film that examines the stark realities of mental illness and the disease of apathy that allows for senseless violence to numb the psych of those who are forced to endure it.
